The Curious Conduct of Mr. Percy Pilsbury: A Scandal In The Brewing

🖋️ Letter from the Editor

Intercepted and Partially Redacted by The Daily Tremor, Vol. XXIX

Dearest Gentle Reader,

For once, we pause the bustle and let the tale breathe.

The camera pans away, and your humble Editor, at last, draws a breath.

But mark this well—this is not my voice you shall hear, but hers. (Though I confess, a certain mischievous parrot may have lent a claw in recovering these precious pages. His methods? Let us say, delightfully unorthodox—and best not questioned.)

What you hold before you is no mere slip of rumour, no clandestine note blurred by heavy censor, nor a whisper sneaked on the wings of a one-legged pigeon called Pablo, with questionable clearance.

Nay, dear reader, a priceless piece of the curious artefact Hopeful Monster has been uncovered —

A part of the original, no less, recovered—some say unearthed—from beneath the floorboards of a particularly ill-fated AirBnB: five stars for location, two for discretion, and guarded by a very persistent cockatoo with eyes like laser beams.

Curated, catalogued, and perhaps even excavated by none other than our Elusive Author herself.

We were never meant to see it. The Nero Sangue buried it in shadow and dust.

Yet, as you may have noticed —  stories such as these possess a stubborn will to survive—much like certain scandalous whispers in the grandest drawing rooms.

So, read with care. Read with courage. Read as if the creature from the windowsill has been watching all along, waiting to see what you make of it.

And should it find its way exactly where it ought to land? Fear not.

Karma, after all, is a most efficient courier service.

Until the next flicker of truth finds it’s wings…

CHAPTER 17

The Sunday afternoon sun poured through Stella’s open windows, the heat of the day making her expensive soundproofing project rather pointless.

But at least it was Sunday—a blessed, legally mandated quiet Sunday.

She sank into her favourite chair, enjoying the gentle breeze off the Amalfi coast, finally allowing herself to relax.

Then she heard it.

Brr-r-r-r-ack-ack-ack-ack!

Her body tensed instantly, heart racing.

That unmistakable sound of metal meeting rock.

On a Sunday?

Even Pussy wouldn’t dare—

Brr-r-r-r-ack-ack-ack-ack! Percy want a cracker!

Stella froze mid-panic.

What?

Brr-r-r-r-ack-ack-ack-ack! Vaffanculo! Brr-r-r-r-ack-ack-ack-ack!

A burst of startled laughter escaped her lips as realisation dawned.

That wasn’t construction at all.

That was Percy, Pussy’s prized blue macaw, performing a pitch-perfect impression of his favourite daytime entertainment.

Through her window, she could see Pussy on her veranda, hands pressed against her ears, looking utterly defeated as Percy launched into another round of his new favourite sound effect.

Mrs Pillsbury on terrace with loud parrot

As Percy’s mechanical serenade continued, Stella’s laughter slowly faded into something more contemplative.

There was a lesson here—one she’d been learning and relearning since her FND diagnosis: the best response wasn’t always about fighting harder or pleading louder or trying to make everyone understand.

Often, it was simply about patience.

Years of conditioning had taught so many people to bend themselves into shapes that made others comfortable, to swallow their own needs, to doubt their own experiences when others dismissed them.

But she was being forced to learn another way.
FND held its own wisdom.

It forced you to stop—to listen to your body’s alarms even when others claimed they weren’t real.

She thought of all the energy she’d wasted trying to reason with Pussy: the letters, the requests explaining her condition, the professional opinions, the tears.

And in those moments when the struggle ceased, the universe had its own way of restoring balance.

Through her window, Percy launched into another enthusiastic performance.

Pussy had disappeared inside, probably searching for the parrot’s cover—a futile gesture, as any bird owner knew.

Once a parrot learned a new sound, it became part of their permanent repertoire.

Once you see something, you can never unsee it.

Stella smiled, took a sip of her coffee, and listened to the waves below.

She needed to remember that she didn’t have to fight every battle herself.

As it turns out, sometimes karma comes with feathers.

Il Sussurro threatening Percy

Why would the NERO SANGUE’S ‘mighty’ Il Sussurro want little old Percy out of town?

So… why is poor Percy being so Percy-cuted?

I mean, he’s just a parrot? Right?
Unless that parrot’s been talking.
And unless what he’s been saying… matters.

He’s not just squawking — he’s leaking. Cause for investigation, don’t you think?

Do you see that glowing red leather-bound thing down there? Worn like it’s been passed hand to hand through generations of warriors. Edges singed, symbols faded — but not gone. You know the kind. Books that hum when the lights go out.

It wasn’t meant to be found.

It was destined for the flames.

But code’s tricky. It slips. It hides. It remembers.

And it found YOU

Curious what happens next?

Our Elusive Author herself.

Smiling. Signing. Defying.

What does this mean?

Whispers say the footage is being auctioned to the highest bidder — a scandal too delicious to air, yet too dangerous to ignore. But we’ll be watching. And if you were looking for closure?

Oh no, darling. We don’t do endings here. We do consequences.
